Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a zookeeper would be like? This experience gives you the opportunity to spend time helping our keepers as they undertake their day-to-day activities. Cleaning out enclosures, assisting with feeding time, devising enrichment features for the cats are all on the agenda, giving you a physical and rewarding day, helping to care for our cats. Celebrating #InternationalCheetahDay - 4 December 2016. We’re so lucky to have five fabulous cheetahs at The Big Cat Sanctuary. Three of these are brothers Martin, Bajrami and Keene who arrived with us from Sweden aged four in June 2014. These boys are active within the EEP Breeding Programme and we hope they will sire cubs in the future. Amusingly, they were named by the female keepers at Boras Zoo after professional footballers!

We also have Murphy who was born in Ireland in 2008, arriving at The Big Cat Sanctuary in 2010. He is studbook registered but has not yet fathered any cubs. He’s a solitary character who prefers his own company, but he does acknowledge his keepers at feeding time and enjoys being in the spotlight on occasions on photographic workshops.

Then there’s Tahnee, who was born in 2011 and came to us from our sister park Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire. She’s a lovely little character who has grown particularly fond of Giles, whom had been carrying out contact training with her. See Giles demonstrating how to carry out a health check without having to call a vet to site. This is beneficial to the cats to keep them calm during route medical procedures.

The Big Cat Sanctuary is a conservation charity set in the heart of the Kent countryside with four pillars of ethos: Welfare, Breeding, Education and Conservation. With 50 big and small cats onsite the sanctuary strives to become the leading facility that supports wild cat conservation around the globe.
