Die Erklärung ist, dass die Bahnen für den Aufblick im dorsalen Mittelhirn kreuzen, also nahe beieinander verlaufen, während die Bahnen für den Abblick ungekreuzt mehr lateral und voneinander getrennt verlaufen, so dass sie selten beide gleichzeitig geschädigt werden.
